Traffic detours near 35th Avenue and Broadway

Sewer line work to take place through the summer

Thursday Jul 17, 2014

Indiana University Northwest students, visitors and employees will experience some traffic detours in the coming weeks due to a major sewer project occurring on and near the campus. The project is being conducted in partnership with the Gary Sanitary District.

Construction updates:

  • 33rd Avenue and Broadway is open. However, portions of the parking lot north and south of 33rd Avenue remain closed as work continues. It is anticipated that all work in the lots north and south of 33rd Avenue will be completed by the end of July.
  • 35th Avenue and Broadway is scheduled to be closed starting July 23. It is anticipated the intersection will re-open by Monday, August 25.

Pending weather, all scheduled work related to the sewer line is scheduled be completed before the start of the fall semester, Monday, August 25.

Due to an expected increase in traffic due to the detour, all IU Northwest students, employees and visitors are advised to use EXTREME CAUTION when crossing Broadway.

We appreciate your patience during this important project, which once finished, will provide substantial assistance to the campus, and surrounding neighborhoods, by removal of storm water during heavy rains.
