IU Northwest offers new and future grads etiquette, networking, job search assistance

Career Week events scheduled for April 2 - 5

Heading out into the “real world” as graduation draws near can be a daunting experience. Networking with potential employers, making a good impression, marketing your skills and learning social graces are essentials that don’t always come easy.

IU Northwest is here to help the workforce of tomorrow handle these situations with finesse and help you “build your brand” during the annual Career Week scheduled for April 2 – 5.

Etiquette Dinner

6 p.m., Tuesday, April 2

John W. Anderson Library Conference Center (room 105)

Attendees will get practical tips about etiquette and manners, as well as handling introductions, the handshake, small talk, dressing for success, and tipping. Social gatherings, luncheons and dinner interviews will also be addressed.

Costs for event: $10 for students; $20 for IU Alumni Association members; and $30 for all other interested individuals. Seating is limited and registration is due Friday, March 22.

‘Building Your Brand’ Style Show

11 a.m., Wednesday, April 3

Moraine Student Center

Learn the do’s and don’ts of dressing for an interview, a business casual event, or even a professional black tie function.

Makeup artist to the stars Tia Dantzler will also offer professional cosmetic advice.

Dantzler’s work has graced the covers and pages of national magazines like Vogue, GQ, Life and Glamour. A few of her noteworthy clients included President Barack Obama, Jennifer Hudson, Kanye West, and Chandra Wilson.

This is a free event; no RSVPs are necessary.

Job Placement & Career Advancement Tips

2 p.m., Thursday, April 4

Bruce W. Bergland Auditorium, Savannah Center

Attend a powerful and engaging lecture by Antoine D. Moss, Ph.D., America’s top authority on internship mastery and early career achievement.

Over the years, Moss has developed a powerful network of highly successful professionals comprised of astronauts, U.S. Congressional officials, FBI agents, famous celebrities, senior executives, and national business moguls.

Moss began to put his knowledge into practice by achieving extraordinary success at a considerably young age. He has written a career development book entitled Learn to Intern CEO Style to help students land jobs in the tough global economy. Through extensive research and professional experience, Moss has developed 71 amazing leadership principles. These principles have driven early career achievers and professionals alike, to succeed in their internships and professional endeavors.

12th Annual Career Fair

9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Friday, April 5

Savannah Center Gymnasium

Employers who are recruiting professionals will be on hand to provide information about their companies, take applications and interview candidates. This is an opportunity to seek internships, part-time or full-time employment.

Remember to bring a resume and dress professionally.

This free event is open to the IU Northwest campus, as well as to the community.
